Set in the Spanish resort of Los Barcos, Eldorado was the BBC's replacement for Terry Wogan's thrice-weekly chat show. In spite of a huge marketing campaign by the BBC, the programme fell foul of viewers and critics alike from the outset. Poor storylines, inexperienced actors and production problems were among the issues believed to have been key in the show's downfall.
In spite of improved quality and ratings, the programme was cancelled by incoming BBC One controller, Alan Yentob, in 1993.
Theme music: composed by Simon May. Lyrics were added to the closing credits theme on the final episode. The song was called 'When You Go Away' and was performed by Johnny Griggs.
